Who is this for?

Designed especially for those ARSA educator members that are new to advocacy or those that want to brush up on their skills, this workshop aims to provide participants with the fundamental tools and knowledge to become effective champions for the rural causes they hold dear. The workshop is open to the first 35 registrants, and a waitlist will be opened for further registrations, both on a "first come - first served" basis. You must be an employee of an ARSA Member District or a Member of the Borderlands Rural Teacher Caucus to attend. What is included?

All participants will receive a $250 scholarship to help cover the cost of travel (hotel, transportation). Meals at the workshop will include breakfast, lunch and a snack.

Outcomes

By the end of the ARSA Winter Advocacy Workshop, participants will:

  1. Have a solid understanding of advocacy and its different facets.
  2. Be equipped with the skills to develop and execute an effective advocacy strategy.
  3. Understand how to engage and communicate with key stakeholders.
  4. Be prepared to navigate the complexities of political and legislative environments.
  5. Be able to measure the success of their advocacy initiatives and refine them as needed.

Building Your Advocacy Strategy:

  • Recognizing the importance of diverse voices.
  • Methods for effective stakeholder engagement.

Communications 101:

  • Crafting your message: clarity, consistency, and impact.
  • Leveraging different communication channels: From traditional media to social media.

Navigating Political Landscapes:

  • Understanding the legislative process.
  • Building relationships with policymakers and legislators.

Evaluating Advocacy Efforts:

  • Establishing metrics for success.
  • Adjusting and refining strategies for maximum impact.
